Why Feeling Nervous Is Normal

(And How to Embrace It)

Feeling nervous before your boudoir session? You’re not alone—and you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

For most of us, the idea of stepping in front of a camera in our undies (or possibly less) can feel overwhelming. Both Jenn and I were terrified to have our own boudoir photos taken! Vulnerability is powerful, but it’s also scary. Let me tell you something important: those butterflies you’re feeling are part of the whole experience.

As boudoir photographers, we’ve worked with so many incredible people who’ve walked into the studio feeling nervous, unsure, and even a little intimidated. And do you know what happens every time? By the end of the session, they’re glowing with confidence, saying, “I can’t believe I just did that!”

Why It’s Normal to Feel Nervous

Let’s be honest—boudoir photography is unlike anything else. It’s not just about the pictures—it’s about stepping outside of your comfort zone and challenging how you see yourself, and embracing yourself exactly as you are. That level of vulnerability can feel intimidating at first. Societal expectations and beauty standards also play a big role in creating those nerves. Many of us have been taught to criticize our bodies or focus on what we don’t like about ourselves. A boudoir session challenges those beliefs, inviting you to step into a space where self-love and acceptance are at the forefront. (Side note, one of our only rules once you step into the studio is, you are not allowed to say bad things about yourself when you are with us. We want the whole experience to be positive!)

Feeling nervous isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign that you’re about to do something brave. It’s a reminder that you’re human, stepping into a new, empowering experience.

Why You Should Embrace the Nerves

Here’s the thing about stepping out of your comfort zone: it’s where the magic happens. Growth doesn’t come from staying in the same place—it comes from pushing through the things that scare you. A boudoir session is about more than just the final images. It’s about the transformation that happens during the experience. When you face those nerves head-on, you’re not just conquering a fear—you’re creating space to see yourself in a new light.

The most beautiful part? Once the session begins, the nerves start to fade. You will begin to focus on the moment, the connection, and the empowerment that comes with embracing your body and your story. Not to mention Jenn will be making some very punny jokes, and you will be too busy laughing or cringing to be nervous. By the end, you’ll be saying, “I can’t believe I was nervous about this!”

How to Embrace Your Nerves and Rock Your Session

If you’re feeling nervous about your upcoming boudoir session, you’re not alone. Here are some tips to help you embrace those nerves and turn them into confidence:

  • Prepare Ahead of Time

Plan your outfits, take care of yourself, and get excited about the experience. Choose pieces that make you feel amazing, whether it’s lace, silk, or even an oversized sweater. Treat yourself to a relaxing bath or play your favorite music while you get ready—it’s all about setting the tone for a positive day.

  • Trust Your Photographer

The right photographer will create a safe, supportive environment where you feel celebrated. Our goal is to make you feel seen, heard, and empowered. From posing guidance to encouraging words, we are here to ensure you feel confident every step of the way.

  • Focus on the Positives

Instead of dwelling on the “what ifs,” focus on how incredible it will feel to look back at your photos and think, “I did that for myself.” This is an opportunity to celebrate your beauty, your strength, and your journey.

  • Breathe and Lean Into the Moment

It’s okay to feel nervous—it’s all part of the experience. Take a deep breath, remind yourself why you’re doing this, and trust that you’re in good hands. The nerves will fade as the session unfolds, and you’ll be left with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Feeling nervous doesn’t mean you’re not ready—it means you’re about to do something amazing for yourself. Those butterflies in your stomach? They’re a good thing!
